The village is famed for its dam, which since 1948 has been holding back the waters of the Rhône (which rise in Switzerland in the glacial cirques of the Oberland). At the foot of the dam the Léon-Perrier power station commemorates the founder of the Compagnie Nationale du Rhône, which built seven dams on the French part of the river.
