Privas The Essential
Privas occupies an original site in the bassin of the Ouvèze, at the foot of Mont Toulon. With an elongated layout, the upper part of the town easily gets choked up with traffic at rush hour. Few places have been so bitterly treated by history, and the siege that the Huguenot capital suffered in the 17C was particularly destructive. The ramparts were knocked down, but the town's remained dynamic and it became the préfecture of the Ardèche and undisputed capital of the marron glacé.
