Charlieu Benedictine Abbey

Interesting
Excavations carried out at this Benedictine Abbey revealed two successive churches (9C and 10C) and an abbey church dating from the 11C. From the latter, the first bay which features capitals characteristic of the Brionnais region still remains. Don't miss the Gallo-Roman sarcophagus, the cloister, the chapter house and the Prior's chapel, dating from the 15C and 16C, the Parlour and the Cellar (which house a lapidary museum and a museum of religious art respectively). The charter-keeper's room provides a view of the whole complex.
