Rouen Museum of Fine Art

Highly recommended
Renovated in 1994, this vast and rich museum offers a comprehensive overview of European artistic production from the 15C to the present day. Particular strongpoints include 17C-19C French painting (Poussin, Jacques Stella, Deshays, Fragonard, Ingres, Géricault); Impressionism (In a Café) by Caillebotte, Rouen Cathedral, Grey Day by Monet and The Tuileries Gardens: Snow Effect by Pissarro) and Cubism (Raymond Duchamp-Villon, Jacques Villon and Marcel Duchamp, all Normandy-born). 17C Italy is represented with a magnificent Caravaggio (The Flagellation of Christ).
