Sigmaringen The Essential
Interesting
The strong defensive position of Sigmaringen - a rocky spur rising from the valley at the mouth of the Upper Danube Gap - made the town an ideal choice as a minor capital of the principality ruled by the Swabian (Catholic) branch of the illustrious Hohenzollerns. The castle is firmly perched on the rock, but its only remaining feudal attributes are its location and general appearance: all the buildings and their interior decoration are pastiches of different styles.
