Founded in 1127, the old abbey, was the first ever Cistercian monastery to be built on the right bank of the Rhine, and was completed at the end of the 13C. It then underwent radical changes during the Baroque period. The layout of the church with its flat-ended chancel is directly inspired by Cîteaux. A prison now occupies the site.
