Bad Karlshafen The Essential
The town was founded in 1699 by the Landgrave Karl of Hessen for the purpose of taking in French refugees. Its uniform and symmetrical design lend it a monumental air. See the Huguenot museum housed in the former tobacco factory, retracing the history of the Huguenots in France and the tragic fate that befell the ceramics artist Bernard de Palissy, and underscores the influence the Huguenots had on crafts, science and the arts.
