Roman Forum of Athens

The Roman agora of Athens, a large quadrangle where most of the city's commercial activity was conducted, was transformed into a grain market by the Turks. It extended as far as the monumental Gate of Athena Archegetis (at the other end of the site, opposite Pikilis Street), and it was surrounded by a peristyle (1C BC).
