Temple to Olympian Zeus

Recommended
This temple, whose ruins stand beyond the Arch of Hadrian, was one of the largest in the Greek world (107m by 41m). It was only completed in AD 132, under the Emperor Hadrian. It was then used as a stone quarry in the Middle Ages. Today very few of the original 104 Corinthian columns remain, yet their size and potency still impress; Chateaubriand compared them to the palm trees of Egypt!
