Kavala Citadel

The crenellated walls of the kastro of Kavala afford exceptional views over the city. Constructed by the Byzantines, this citadel was remodelled by the Turks and then by the Venetians in the 15C. Within the ramparts there is an underground cistern, a defensive tower and, now, an open-air theatre.
