This green coastal village is a holiday resort and fishing port. Its old houses and churches cluster on the banks of a mountain stream. Kardamili is dominated by a medieval wall and the delicately carved pointed belfry of the Church of Agios Spiridonas (13C). Beyond the village is the splendid Viros Gorge. The steep-sided canyon disappears into the Vassilikis forest and comes out at the sea north of Kardamili. The descent is along a magnificent paved track.
