Chora (Patmos)

Chora (Patmos)
The Essential
On the island of Patmos, the immaculate houses of Chora cling to the hillside. The upper town, still at a remove from the tourist hubbub below, has retained its traditional 16C and 17C architecture: a maze of stairways dotted with covered passages, whitewashed back streets, little arcaded houses and neo-Classical buildings. Be sure to see the little square in front of the town hall, from where there is a view of the Aegean and the flower-filled garden of Zoodochos Pigi Monastery (17C frescoes).
