Glengarriff The Essential
The town consists of little more than a main street, with its shops, pubs, hotels and guesthouses, and has been a tourist centre since the mid 19C. As early as 1830 visitors to the region were publishing their impressions of the exotic flora which flourish in the mild climate of south-west Cork. Queen Victoria stayed at the Eccles Hotel, formerly a coaching stage, built in 1833. Pleasant walks can be enjoyed along the wooded banks of the Blue Pool.
