Kilkenny The Essential
Recommended
Set on the banks of the Nore, Kilkenny, the county town, is the most outstanding medieval city in Ireland. The castle and the cathedral dominate the town centre from either side, where the narrow alleys still follow their medieval paths (walks organised by the Tourist Office). Its historic legacy, carefully preserved with beautifully restored ancient buildings, is matched by a strong artistic tradition.
