Castlebar
Castlebar The Essential
The county town of Mayo, Castlebar is a pleasant town, with the river of the same name flowing through it. On the Mall, an area where Lord Lucan (Patrick Sarsfield) once played cricket, there now stands a monument commemorating the rebellion of the United Irish in 1798, beside which is the tomb of John Moore, who was at the time president of the Connaught provisional government. Reonowned flax-trading fairs were once held in the town hall.
