Cashel The Essential
Highly recommended
Nestled at the foot of a 60m-high rock, this village boasts some of the country's most interesting religious relics. At the top of the hill, the romantic silhouettes of the round tower and the ancient cathedral lying in ruins exude a sense of mystery. Capital of the Celtic rulers of the Kingdom of Munster, converted to Christianity in the 5C by St Patrick, Cashel retains an important position in the Irish collective consciousness.
