The Essential
Boyle, located on the river of the same name, is overlooked by the Curlew Hills to the North. An ideal place for coarse trout fishing and line fishing, this is the main town of the northern half of the county in a region that was once known as Moylurg. In 1617, the land belonging to the MacDermots, the nobility of Moylurg, was given to Sir John King. His fourth son, Edward, who disappeared at sea in 1636 during a crossing between England and Ireland, inspired Milton's Lycidas.
