The Essential
Lismore, a lovely little town situated at the confluence of the River Blackwater and the River Owennashad, in the shadow of the castle, preserves one of Ireland's oldest cathedrals, as well as a number of interesting instances of profane architecture from the 19C, but in the old English Tudor style. Visitors can fish salmon, sea trout and brown trout in the idyllic surroundings of the Blackwater or take picturesque walks along the south bank.
