New Ross The Essential
Despite its late-19C air, New Ross is actually one of County Wexford's oldest towns. Its narrow streets, which sometimes become alleys and stairs, rise steeply from the the quays of the east bank of the River Barrow, up to Irishtown, an old monastic foundation overlooking the town. New Ross is still an important inland port. Fertiliser production, begun in the fifties, is now also a main industries.
