Promontorio del Gargano

Highly recommended
Sticking up like a spur in the boot of Italy, Gargano is one of Italy's most unspoilt and most appealing regions. Leave from Monte Sant'Angelo and head north through the Foresta Umbra (27 000 acres). From the fishing village of Peschici, continue on to Vieste then Mattinata. The mountain road between these two resorts is quite beautiful. Stop at the Testa del Gargano and enjoy the view of the creek of San Felice, then again at Pugnochiuso, for the Bay of Zagare. The descent towards Mattinata affords a good view of the town.
