Piazza Matteotti (Matteotti Square)

Situated in the centre of the lower town, this immense square is the focal point of the modern town. It is extended by the Sentierone where the locals love to walk and flanked by the Donizetti theatre (which honours the memory of the great local composer and author Lucie de Lamermoor, and the Church of Saint Bortolomeo, which harbours the Martinengo retable, by Lorenzo Lotto.
