Lago Maggiore

Highly recommended
Its size (212.3km²), majestic, unspoilt beauty, and above all the Borromean Islands in its centre make Lake Maggiore the most famous of Italy's Pre-Alpine lakes. It is fed by the River Tessin, which rises in Switzerland, and its waters change from a jade green in the north to a deep blue in the south. Sheltered by the Alps and Pre-Alps, its shores enjoy a constantly mild climate which has enabled a luxuriant and exotic flora to thrive. Definitely worth a tour!
