Scaliger tombs

Recommended
The Scaligeri had their tombs placed between their palace and their church. The sarcophaguses bear the dynasty's emblem of a symbolic ladder (scala). These elegant Gothic funerary monuments protected by marble balustrading and wrought-iron work are decorated with religious scenes and statues of saints. Above the door of the Romanesque church of Santa Maria Antica is the tomb of the popular Cangrande I (mounted on horseback; original now in the Museo di Castelvecchio)
