The MARTA is one of the Puglia region's most remarkable archaeological museums. It exhibits the art of Taranto and its region, from prehistoric to Roman times, with a particular focus on the town's (Taras) Greek period. Highlights include the head of Aphrodite by the Praxiteles school dating from the 4C BC, a remarkable collection of pottery and exceptional gold jewellery dating back to the Hellenistic period.
