Cividale del Friuli The Essential
Recommended
The Cividale del Friuli, former Forum Julii founded by Julius Caesar overlooking the River Natisone, gave its name to the Friuli region. It is here that the Lombards, who came from Scandinavia, founded the first of their northern Italian duchies in the 6C and the monuments they left behind them are now Unesco World Heritage sites. The hillsides around the town covered in vineyards produce Colli Orientali del Friuli wines.
