Civitavecchia The Essential
Ancient Centumcellae has been the port of Rome since the reign of Trajan and is still a busy port today, handling maritime traffic with Sardinia. It is here that the writer Stendhal was appointed French Consul in 1831. He took advantage of the substantial amount of leisure time offered by his post to write several of his works, including The Charterhouse of Parma.
