Como The Essential
Interesting
By the shores of the lake with which it shares a name, Como was a prosperous town under the Romans. Although destroyed by the Milanese in 1127, the latter nonetheless made the most of the maestri comacini, masons-architects-sculptors who spread the Lombard style of architecture throughout Italy and Europe. In the 1930s, Como served as a testing ground for architects of the Rationalist school of architecture, illustrated by the Novocomum and Casa del Fascio.
