This archipelago is situated in northeastern Sardinia, opposite the town of Palau. Granite and schist islands (La Maddalena is the largest) form a magical landscape eroded by the wind and the sea. Large numbers of sea birds (yellow-legged gulls and Cory's shearwater) nest on the cliffs and more than 700 different plant species grow here, 50 of which are endemic. The islands offer 180km of unspoilt coastline which is best explored on foot or by boat, armed with binoculars or snorkel and mask.
