Castelsardo The Essential
Recommended
Originally called "Genoese Castle" in 1102, then designated "Aragon Castle" by its new owners in 1448, Castelsardo owes its current name to the House of Savoy, which in 1769 gave it back its true signification of a fortress. The lower part of the town and its surroundings could today go under the name of "Castel turistico", given the attention this small-scale, Mediterranean Mont St Michel attracts. Be sure to visit the fortified town before exploring the hills of Anglona, going from Romanesque church to medieval village.
