The Essential
Martis, which is still principally a farming town (for a long time it produced "fire-making stone" (flint) for the island), has many beautiful residences in the old town. In the southeast of the town is San Pantaleoa, which was built in the first quarter of the 14C and restructured between the 16C and 19C. It has a tripartite façade that has preserved the blind arcade of its gable, its two-coloured ceiling rose and the coving around the sturdy portal. A track takes you out to the beautiful petrified wood of Carrucana (a 45min walk there and back).
