Former Akragas was founded by settlers from Gela around 580 BC. From Antiquity, the town has retained a magnificent group of temples (Valle dei Templi), some of which are in better condition than others, located below its acropolis. On the hilltop, the medieval town rich in character and superb monuments is equally well worth visiting.
