Palma di Montechiaro The Essential
The town was founded in 1637 by the twin brothers Carlo and Gilio Tomasi, ancestors of the novelist Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa (1869-1957). The latter wrote the famous novel Il Gattopardo (The Leopard), which was published in 1958 and made into a film by Luchino Visconti. Palma di Montechiaro, together with Palermo and Santa Margherita di Belice, is part of the Parco culturale del Gattopardo Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa.
