San Marco d'Alunzio The Essential
This pretty little village, just 9km from the sea at an altitude of 550m, commands a fantastic view of Cefalù and the Aeolian Islands. Each era of Sicilian history has left its mark here. It owes its name, San Marco d'Alunzio, to the Normans who named it after the first city they conquered in Calabria. The use of pink marble from the local quarries is a distinctive feature of the local architecture.
