Catacombs of the Cappucini

Recommended
The catacombs are a macabre yet fascinating labyrinth where thousands of dessicated bodies of the city's inhabitants, dressed from head to toe with grimacing features and contorted postures, are exhibited. Hanging from the walls, they are protected by a grille, further adding to their sinister aspect. This is the last resting place of some 8 000 mummified Capuchin monks and wealthier citizens, including children and young people, whose state of preservation is remarkable.
