Ragusa The Essential
Recommended
There are two districts in Ragusa: "Ragusa superior" on one side of the gorge - the former town of bigwigs with its steep, rectilinear streets, and Ibla, on the hillside. The latter, former residence of the aristocracy and clergy, has retained its endearing semi-medieval, semi-Baroque atmosphere. Both owe their current aspect to reconstruction carried out in the wake of the devastating earthquake of 1693. Ragusa is a Unesco World Heritage site.
