Capellone degli Spagnoli

Recommended
This chapterhouse is covered with frescoes by Andrea Buonaiuto hailing the glory of the Dominicans (1365-1367). Comprising a series of allegorical figures and scenes, the frescoes were intended to be educational. On the left-hand wall the Triumph of the Divine Wisdom and the Glorification of St Thomas Aquinas are depicted; on the right, the Church Militant and Triumphant, and the Exaltation of the Dominicans' Action; the back wall features the Road to Calvary, the Crucifixion and the Descent into Limbo.
