Castelvecchio Pascoli
The Essential
This village lies 4km from Barga and is indelibly linked in the Italian mind with the poet Giovanni Pascoli (1855-1912), who came from Romagna. His Canti di Castelvecchio (Songs of Castelvecchio) have made the village familiar to many Italians. The poet purchased a house here, thanks to prizes won during Latin poetry competitions in Amsterdam. Standing in a quiet rural landscape, the house was maintained for years by Pascoli's sister and still contains its original furniture.
