Museo Nazionale di San Matteo

Recommended
Located in the cloister of San Matteo, this museum bears witness to the artistic blooming that occurred in Pisa from the 13C to the 15C. There are ceramics (used for the architectural decoration of churches), paintings from the archaic period distinguished by the Byzantine style (Giunta Pisano) through to the era when Pisa, having fallen under Florence's rule, saw Florentine artists arrive and produce their artworks. As regards sculptures, there are works by Pisano and Francesco di Valdambrino.
