San Miniato The Essential
Interesting
San Miniato, on the road between Florence and Livorno, was formerly the official residence of the Holy Roman Emperors. The little town stretches out along a hilltop forming an amphitheatre dominated by a tower. An impressive convent, tower-houses and aristocratic mansions dating from the 15C-17C all add to its interest for visitors. The town was also the birthplace of the brothers and film directors, Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, who shot La Notte di San Lorenzo here.
