Via del Castello

This street, which leads up to the castle, is lined with numerous interesting historic buildings, including tower-houses, palaces (such as the Palazzo dei Priori, home to the Museo Civico e d'Arte Sacre which displays 16C and 17C work by the Florentine and Sienese Schools) and the Teatro dei Varii, founded in the 18C in the former Hospital of the Holy Spirit. Arnolfo di Cambio, architect of the Cathedral of Florence, is said to have been born in the last tower-house of the street.
