Arquà Petrarca The Essential
Interesting
This town near Padua has retained its medieval feel, as well as memories of FrancescoPetrarch (1304-74), author of the Canzoniere, the first major lyric work written in Italian. In this poem the writer immortalised his love for Laura de Noves whom he met in Avignon. His work became a reference in Europe for lyric poetry and gave rise during the Renaissance to a phase of imitation and cult worship of the poet.
