Daugavpils The Essential
Interesting
Not far from the Russian and Belarusian frontiers, Daugavpils on the River Daurada has something of the Little Russia about it, on account of its history, architecture and largely Russian-speaking population. Wider economic difficulties have not spared Latvia's second city, and much of the industrial infrastructure it inherited from Soviet times lies silent. Despite this, the city merits exploration, with its amazing fortress, numerous churches and Art Nouveau houses.
