Gauja National Park
This national park, lying northeast of Riga and covering some 90 000ha, encompasses the varied topography of the Gauja Valley. It includes forests, prairies, rivers, lakes and marshland, punctuated by impressive rock formations and caves, not to mention numerous historical buildings. Add to that a rich biodiversity (900 plant species, diverse fauna), water sports and skiing, and you will quickly understand that "Latvia's Switzerland" lives up to its promise.
