The Netherlands Maritime Museum

Recommended
Formerly the Admiralty's main warehouse, this vast building, supported by 18 000 piles, has been home to the National Maritime Museum since 1973. The collections present a fairly exhaustive overview of the maritime history of the Netherlands, from the merchant navy to fishing and warfare. The ship Amsterdam, which holds pride of place amongst the numerous moored vessels, is the jewel in the museum's crown. The three-master is a replica of the 18C vessel Batavia.
