Northern Church (Noorderkerk)

This church was built in 1623. Begun by Hendrick de Keyser, who died in 1621, it was completed by Hendrick Jacobsz Staets. The most significant feature is its Greek-cross plan layout, a pattern which influenced a large number of Protestant churches in the Netherlands. This arrangement allows the "Good News" to be heard by everyone, wherever they are in the church. Otherwise the interior is of little aesthetic interest.
