Rokin

This broad street leading into the Damrak, covers what used to be the mouth of the Amstel, of which all that remains today is a small basin. At the end of the basin is a statue of Queen Wilhelmina, by T van der Pan. Although modern buildings disrupt the architectural unity of the Rokin, some façades by Vingboons (nos 91 and 145) do survive. Cigar lovers should not miss the Hajenius shop (nos 92-96), which has been in business since 1826.
