Church square

This square has attractive monuments such as St-Nicolaaskerk (end of the Gothic), the Klokkentoren (old prison) and the old town hall (17C), a porticoed building built of brick and sandstone and converted into a restaurant. There is also the pretty façade with a stepped gable of the Latijnse School, now a bank, from 1627; there are two sculpted steles in front of the entrance. From the chevet of the church, you can see the bastions of the old ramparts (now the anchorage for pleasure boats).
