Leiden The Essential
Recommended
Built on the Old Rhine, to the west of Rijnland, Leiden is a pleasant, lively town crisscrossed by canals. The town is famous for its university, the oldest in the country and has a large number of museums and old hospices full of charm. It is also a prosperous town where the graphic and construction industries are important. The Vlietland, a large recreational area, extends to the south-west of the town.
