Amersfoort The Essential
Interesting
Located in the Gelder valley at the confluence of two waterways which form the Eem, Amersfoort is a town with a melancholy charm, surrounded by woods and heathland. Nestling in its double ring of canals, it has preserved its medieval character. The centre is listed as a "heritage town". Amersfoort also has a modern district in a wonderful architectural style: the Kattenbroek . The hills of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug , to the south, are old moraines from a Scandinavian glacier.
