Monchique The Essential
The small town of Monchique, nestling in the greenery on the eastern flank of Foia, has a church famous for its Manueline doorway. From the belvedere on the fairground, there is an interesting view over the districts standing opposite Mont Picota. The road, heading to Mont Foia, cuts through the highest slopes of the Serra Monchique. After a few kilometres under the pine trees and the eucalypts, the view opens out to the south.
